Breast Implant Revision

Exchanging breast implants is a surgical procedure in which the surgeon removes one or both implants due to capsular contracture, patient dissatisfaction with the look or size of the implants, concerns about aging implants or a patient's desire to switch from saline implants to silicone (or vice versa). Dr. Richard D'Amico is highly experienced in performing this type of breast enhancement surgery for New Jersey and New York metro area women who want to revise their breast implants.

Who is a Good Candidate?

If you are experiencing capsular contracture or are unhappy with the look of your breast implants, a secondary breast augmentation procedure can help you finally achieve a satisfying outcome. Other reasons for considering breast implant revision include replacing implants that have been in place for many years, or switching from your existing breast implant type to another implant material (silicone or saline). Another possible surgery is capsulectomy or capsulotomy to improve capsular contracture or breast hardening. If you are otherwise healthy, you are likely to be a good candidate for implant exchange.

How It's Done

Depending upon your reason for breast implant revision surgery, New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Richard D'Amico may take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours to perform your procedure. This surgery is done in our accredited surgical suite under general anesthesia, and you will go home the same day. The incision is generally made under the breast, in the fold, or through an incision around the areola. The implants are carefully removed and replaced, with adjustments made in accordance with your consultation with Dr. D'Amico.

Recovery

The recovery time is usually fairly rapid. You will initially feel some mild discomfort, as well as some swelling and bruising. You should find that you'll feel back to normal in about a week. Although you will see results immediately, keep in mind that some swelling will make your breasts appear slightly larger than they will be after things settle down a bit, which takes about 2 weeks.

Getting Started

The first step in achieving your cosmetic goals is to request a consultation with Dr. D'Amico, serving New York, New Jersey, and the Tri-State area. He enjoys spending time with you one-on-one to understand your objectives and give his professional opinion about the procedures that are best for you. You will never feel pressured to choose surgery and you will even have a second consultation visit (included with your fee) to bring along family or loved ones and ask follow-up questions. The consultation fee is applied toward any surgical procedure you choose. We are also happy to schedule appointments by phone at 201.399.4268.
