Who is a candidate for CoolSculpting?
Candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure, who visit from Fort Lee and Teaneck, NJ and surrounding areas, have small amounts of fat that remain even with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Candidates are in a healthy weight range and have realistic expectations of what a CoolSculpting treatment can do for them. It can address tough areas like the abdomen (belly), hips, love handles, upper back and bra rolls, offering on average a 22 to 25% improvement of a targeted area*. If you have larger areas of fat to be removed, Dr. D’Amico may recommend liposuction, a tummy tuck, or other body contouring measures for effective treatment.
How the CoolSculpting Procedure Works
CoolSculpting works by selectively cooling the fat cells in the treated area, which destroys these cells and then causes the body to remove the cells through its own natural cleansing process. Because it uses selective cooling, CoolSculpting treatments are meant to protect surrounding healthy tissue, improving comfort and completely eliminating downtime.*
Each area to be treated will require approximately 1 hour of treatment time, and you’ll be able to read or just relax while the CoolSculpting device works. Since this is a non-surgical procedure, anesthesia is not used. An additional treatment may be recommended several months after your previous treatment for additional sculpting improvement.
CoolSculpting Recovery & Results
Our patients are able to return to their everyday activities immediately following treatment – there is no downtime. While some numbness and swelling may be experienced around the treated area, this typically subsides within 15 to 20 minutes after the treatment is finished*.
Results are revealed gradually as the body eliminates targeted fat cells. Within 60 to 90 days*, our patients are able to see their maximum improvement from the treatment.
Are there any side effects to CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is not a surgical procedure which means there are less serious side effects than liposuction or tummy tuck procedure. There are, however, possible temporary side effects including:
All patients react to the treatment differently. If you have numbness that lasts more than a few weeks please contact Dr. D’Amico.
Why should I choose Dr. D’Amico?
One of the earliest adopters of CoolSculpting, Dr. D’Amico is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has decades of experience performing a range of body contouring procedures. During your consultation, he will recommend CoolSculpting only if he believes it can provide the improvements you want. He has experience with a range of fat-reducing treatments and is qualified to recommend which will best serve your needs. If CoolSculpting is right for you, Dr. D’Amico will ensure that the procedure is performed properly and safely so that you attain the best possible results.
Can CoolSculpting help me lose weight?
CoolSculpting can improve your appearance by reducing superficial fat, which lies just under the skin, but it is not a weight-loss procedure. The treatment reduces the actual number of fat cells you have; because fat cells cannot grow back, results are lasting. Weight loss shrinks the fat cells you have, which means the fat cells are there to enlarge again if you gain weight. While the number on the scale may not become significantly smaller after CoolSculpting, the treated areas will. Patients often have 22 to 25% fat reduction*.
Does CoolSculpting tighten skin?
The fat reduction procedure affects only fat cells, so loose skin will remain that way after your treatment. It’s possible that by losing fat you may gain a firmer appearance, but for significant skin laxity you may require a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck.
Why won’t I see my results right away?
Unlike liposuction, which physically removes fat, CoolSculpting damages fat cells and the body gets rid of them naturally. Treated fat cells don’t all die at the same rate and are gradually eliminated, so it will take a few weeks for you to first notice a change in treated areas. Many patients see slow, continual improvement for about 2 to 4 months *.
Is CoolSculpting safe?
The CoolSculpting procedure was FDA cleared in 2012 for non-surgical fat reduction and continues to have a positive safety record. When performed by an experienced provider who considers you a good candidate, these treatments are very safe.
Why choose CoolSculpting over liposuction?
If you are close to your ideal weight and have areas of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise on the thighs, abdomen, or flanks, CoolSculpting may be a good choice. People often choose this procedure over liposuction because it does not involve anesthesia, incisions, stitches, or downtime.
