What Is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?Eyelid Surgery New Jersey | Blepharoplasty Englewood NJ

Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Richard D’Amico, performs blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, in Englewood, NJ to give women and men a refreshed, more youthful appearance. This procedure reshapes the upper and lower eyelids by removing bulging fat, extra skin and lax muscles to restore the eyes to a more youthful appearance*. Sagging upper eyelids and bags under the eyes are the two most common reasons for blepharoplasty.

This procedure does not change the shape of your eye, and will not remove “crow’s feet” or dark circles under the eyes. It is often combined with a brow lift or facelift for a more complete facial rejuvenation.

Eyelid Rejuvenation Candidates

Ideal candidates for eyelid rejuvenation are healthy men and women who desire a refreshed appearance to their eyes. It is also for patients who have a genetic disposition to saggy upper lids or puffy lower lids (“bags” under the eyes). It is also effective in patients who find that drooping upper lids interfere with their vision*.

Blepharoplasty Procedure

We use general, or local/sedation anesthesia for the blepharoplasty procedure in our accredited office surgery suite. The procedure takes about one hour. It may be also be done in combination with a facelift, laser resurfacing, brow lift or forehead lift. Dr. D’Amico makes the lower eyelid incisions in the crease of the upper lid. Lower lid incisions are inside the lash line. Dr. D’Amico removes extra skin and fat from the area and closes the incision with tiny sutures. Sutures generally remain in place for 3-5 days and dissolve. The results of a blepharoplasty evolve over a period of several weeks.*

Recovery After Eyelid Surgery

You will have some bruising and swelling of the eyelids for about a week. Your vision may be slightly impaired for a few days due to the swelling. Dr. D’Amico will prescribe pain medications if appropriate. You will want to have cool compresses available to bring down the swelling and to ease any discomfort. We suggest that you keep your head elevated and refrain from driving until the initial swelling has gone down.

The full results of a blepharoplasty are visible in 2 to 3 weeks. Like other surgical procedures, we advise that you refrain from strenuous activity for 3 to 4 weeks to avoid any chance of injury to the eye area.*
