Are you considering liposuction but unsure which method is right for you? Don’t worry, it’s easy for anyone researching different kinds of liposuction to become overwhelmed by the various technologies available. There’s ultrasound, laser, power-assisted, and water-assisted, not to mention standard tumescent liposuction. While these methods can be appropriate for certain patients, they all rely on aggressive fat extraction that can damage surrounding blood vessels and connective tissues, sometimes resulting in significant bruising and swelling. The HydraSolve® Lipoplasty System, on the other hand, is a gentle method of liposuction that liquefies and selectively targets fat. One of the few plastic surgeons with the skills, experience, and training needed to use HydraSolve, Dr. D’Amico chose to add this sophisticated new technology to his menu of services in order to provide a decidedly non-aggressive, yet effective body contouring option for his liposuction patients.
HydraSolve offers the following advantages for Dr. D’Amico’s liposuction patients*:
- Removes only targeted fat tissue, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.
- Allows for more precision during surgery, resulting in smoothly contoured results.
- Eases the recovery process, because it’s less invasive than traditional liposuction.
In addition to performing HydraSolve as a stand-alone procedure, Dr. D’Amico can use it to complement a tummy tuck.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
As you age, you may find that you have developed saddlebags, love handles, a tummy bulge or “bra fat.” You can diet and exercise, but these areas don’t always respond to even the most rigid fitness and food plans. In such cases, body contouring with HydraSolve can provide the solution.
How It’s Done
Dr. D’Amico can perform a HydraSolve procedure with a local anesthetic, a local anesthetic with sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on how much fat needs to be removed and the number of areas being targeted. After making minute incisions, he removed fat through a special liposuction cannula (a slender tube) using low-energy Tissue Liquefaction Technology™ (TLT).
HydraSolve uses warm, low-pressure water to loosen fat cells and transform them from a solid to a liquid. Because the fat is liquefied, Dr. D’Amico can gently and precisely manipulate the cannula to extract the targeted fat cells without affecting the surrounding tissue.
After your HydraSolve procedure, Dr. D’Amico will provide you with detailed instructions to enhance your recovery. To facilitate the healing process, you will need to take a few days off from work or strenuous exercise. Dr. D’Amico recommends avoiding vigorous activity for 10 days after your procedure.*
Because of HydraSolve’s unique TLT system, most people experience only minimal swelling or bruising. Such side effects typically subside in just a few days. A follow-up visit usually is necessary during the first week after the procedure.
Within several weeks, you will see the full benefits of your HydraSolve treatment*. The treated areas will be subtly sculpted, with problems such as love handles replaced by firm, smoothly contoured curves.
How is HydraSolve less aggressive than other liposuction methods?
HydraSolve is a non-cutting liposuction system that is based on Tissue Liquefaction Technology™ (TLT) used for precision cataract surgery. Using a low-pressure stream of a warm saline solution, HydraSolve simultaneously liquefies and removes fat. It also uses a unique rounded aperture that eliminates the need for forceful thrusting and, unlike the sharpened edges of cannulas used in other types of liposuction, doesn’t cut tissue.
What’s the difference between water-assisted liposuction and HydraSolve?
Although both water-assisted liposuction and HydraSolve use water, the similarities end there. In water-assisted liposuction, a high-pressure stream is ejected from the cannula to forcefully wash the fat from the attached connective tissue. Although jets of water can be forceful enough to cut through tissue, the pressure used in this technique is lowered to avoid cutting non-fat tissue. After the water flushes through the area being suctioned, the sharpened cannula apertures remove the fat as in other aggressive liposuction techniques.
Can HydraSolve be used for revision liposuction?
Yes, the gentle liposuction system is an ideal way to repair contour abnormalities that resulted from more traditional liposuction procedures.
If the HydraSolve liposuction method is gentler, is the recovery shorter?
In most cases, yes. HydraSolve is designed to cause minimal bruising or pain by reducing damage to surrounding blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues. Most patients can return to work a few days after the procedure. More strenuous physical activities can be resumed within 2 weeks.*
Can you use the fat extracted during HydraSolve liposuction to enhance another part of my body?
Autologous fat grafting — using fat taken from one part of your body and implanting it into another area — is an increasingly popular procedure. Using fat extracted during a HydraSolve procedure was recently cleared by the FDA and is a natural alternative to dermal fillers. In fact, the liquefied fat removed during HydraSolve is excellent donor fat for a grafting procedure because the vast majority of it consists of healthy fat cells rather than damaged ones.
