Injectables: Let’s Answer Those Questions

Dermal Fillers Englewood NJIf you’re new to the injectable trend, you may have more questions than you care to admit. That’s ok! Just because injectables have been in use for over a decade and seem to be widely used by adults of all ages doesn’t mean you should not question what they are and what they can do for you. Here, we want to answer those burning questions that many patients have but are hesitant to ask.

Why are there so many different injectables?

One of the first things that people notice when they start to look into beauty treatments like injectables is that there are a number of products. This can immediately cause confusion. What do you choose for what purpose? We try to make this easy:

  • Botox softens wrinkles by causing muscles to relax. So, for concerns on the uppermost part of the face, like frown lines, we turn to Botox.
  • Dermal fillers like the Juvéderm® products we use are usually introduced around the nose and mouth to reduce the appearance of lines and creases by inserting volume to the tissues beneath the skin. Juvéderm® does this with hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that binds to water molecules.
  • Kybella is one of the most recently approved injectables. This product contains deoxycholic acid, a natural chemical that breaks down fat. Kybella is used to reduce double-chin fat.

Will I still look natural after injectable treatment?

If we look back through the history of cosmetic treatments, we can find evidence that everything from facelifts to Botox and fillers have altered appearance too much. At the same time, we can also recognize the value of such techniques when performed thoughtfully. Could injectables make you look “fake”? Yes. Will they? No. Dr. D’Amico is conscientious in his use of injectables so our patients look like a beautifully refreshed version of themselves, not like someone who’s had work done.
