Botox Equivalent Called Jeuveau
Wrinkle and frown reduction is a common goal amongst patients at our Englewood, NJ office. For many years Botox has been the go-to treatment for frown lines and other dynamic lines and wrinkles. Now there is a new neuromodulator called JEUVEAU. This recent newcomer to the neuromodulator arena has demonstrated comparable safety and efficacy to Botox and we are pleased to offer it as an alternative that many patients will find ideal.
What Is Jeuveau?
JEUVEAU is FDA approved for the correction of glabella frown lines, just like Botox. The injectable formulation contains a proprietary 900 Kilo Dalton purified Botulinum toxin Type A that is a highly effective neuromodulator and virtually the same molecule as Botox itself.
JEUVEAU has undergone extensive evaluation in clinical studies, observing its effects on over 2,100 patients. The FDA approved cosmetic agent based on performance in two separate phases three double-blind placebo-controlled multicenter randomized trials. Each trial met the designated primary endpoints. Results were comparable and sometimes better than Botox.
How Does Jeuveau Work?
Being a botulinum toxin, JEUVEAU works in the same manner as Botox. When injected into the muscle, it adheres to the nerve receptors in the target area. This inhibits the release of the chemical vital to muscle contraction. Essentially, those connections are interrupted. As a result, the muscle stops working to fold and, therefore, stops creating lines and creases in the skin.
Who Is a Candidate for Jeuveau?
Candidates for neuromodulators are great candidates for JEUVEAU. Exceptions include women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who anyone who has had an adverse reaction to other botulinum toxin products, such as Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport.
How Does Jeuveau Compare to Botox?

According to data in clinical trials, JEUVEAU is VERY similar to Botox.
- Both work by interrupting neurotransmission from the brain to a particular muscle or group of muscles.
- Both achieve lasting results.
- Both have demonstrated high efficacy and safety capacity.
- JEAUVEAU’S performance was as good, or even perhaps, slightly better than Botox.
Every person has unique needs, tissue type, and preferences. Our consultation process enables us to identify the details that will guide the treatment process. Schedule a consultation with our experienced team to find out if JEUVEAU is ideal for you.
Why Should I Choose Jeuveau?
While in its trial phase for FDA approval, JEUVEAU demonstrated capabilities that suggested it would likely present some strong competition for Botox and other neuromodulators. In addition to the performance record achieved in clinical trials, patients may find JEUVEAU an appealing treatment option because of its price point. It has been estimated that this injection may be up to 30% less than other wrinkle-reducing products.
Can I Have Jeuveau If I Have Previously Had Botox?
All neuromodulators rely on similar neurotoxins to reduce the appearance of frown lines and other wrinkles. However, studies have confirmed that JEUVEAU is most similar to Botox. This similarity means that the two drugs are interchangeable and that patients who have previously been treated with Botox can easily switch to JEUVEAU and back again if they so desire.
It is important to discuss timing and previous experience with Dr. D’Amico & Dr. Ferrauiola before undergoing JEUVEAU. If you have had an adverse reaction to Botox or other neuromodulators, you may have a similar reaction to JEUVEAU. Also, JEUVEAU treatment needs to be timed a few months away from previous Botox treatment.
What Areas Can Be Treated with Jeuveau?
The FDA has approved JEUVEAU injectable for the correction of glabella frown lines. However, we anticipate that doctors will begin using this drug off-label as they become more familiar with its effects.
Do Jeuveau Injections Hurt?
In Dr. D’ Amico & Dr. Ferrauiola’s practice, patients who are having injectables of any kind have the option to have a topical numbing cream applied for fifteen or twenty minutes before the injection to numb the skin and render the treatment comfortable. If you are new to injectables and concerned about comfort, talk with us. We can suggest strategies to reduce the minor sensation of injections. The JEUVEAU solution itself is not felt as it permeates the muscle.
Can I Return to Daily Activity Immediately After Treatment?
One of the advantages of injectable treatments is that they allow you to go about your daily routine as normal. After your visit with us, your skin may be slightly red or swollen where injections were given, but side effects fade very quickly in most case. Dr. D’Amico & Dr. Ferrauiola recommends normal activities and work, but refraining from strenuous exercise for twenty-four hours after injectables.
